It'd be quite interesting to hear how people think up plot bunnies. Does it hop into your mind fully formed or is it like a path that's revealed bit by bit.

Personally I just doze off for a while and sort of film-like sequence pops into mind. It has dialogue, scenery and everything. Then when I've finished 'watching' it I run along and write it out. Dunno, probably sounds strange but it makes life a lot easier as I don't have to focus on dialogue at all.

What about the rest of you?

It depends, sometimes I'll be reading and I'll think of something related to something that I've just read. At other times I'll be thinking about one aspect of the Harry Potter world and an idea comes to me, and it would just build up.

For example, for my story I got the idea from a part in HBP where Dumbledore says that no-one had ever been trusted or been a real friend to Tom Riddle. So then I thought - what if Tom had have had a friend? And then I'd ask myself questions like "Where is he from? Who are his parents?" and the plot would just build up like that.

Usually a scene with one or two clear lines of dialogue pops into my head.

And then it just heads off on wild tangents in a sort of stream of consciousness thing.

I have to scribble some reminders down so that I don't forget the bunny. Sometimes I'll even write out a rough version of only the dialogue for the scene. Not actions or much punctuation, just to get it down before I forget it. Because it's terribly frustrating to later have a glimmer or hints of an idea but not remember what it was. Simply remembering it was good and you liked it.

Heh, they just pop into my head randomly, an idea that sounds awesome to me. But then I try to write it down, and it won't come...so I give up on it. :p

eh Plot Bunnies tend to hit me when i'm trying to think up Orginality for my Naruto fic, for that series anyways.

HP plot bunnies tend to happen when I'm reading a History textbook for class or they are just completely random at any given time.

I get ideas usually while reading HP stories or discussing HP... in general, only while thinking about HP. Never got a bunny while doing other stuff.

I'm working on a couple of fics at the moment and the plot for most of them entered my head almost fully formed. I usually have to spend a few days expanding on some of the ideas before I have the plot fully formed.

Speaking of plot bunnies... I think I'm going to have mine neutered. It's like they're acting out their favourite 'home movies' in my head. Little plot bunny babies are being born by the hour. I've got so many of the little critters running through my mind at the moment I can't even think straight. Please make them go away!

I tend to get off on my most random plot bunnies when I’m listening to music while driving right after reading HP FanFiction…. I spose you could call it day dreaming.

Whenever I have nothing to focus my midn on it starts to drift,a dn inevitably something grabs its attention and then it goes off and becomes a plot bunny. Sometimes its full with dialogue and images, otehr times its jsut basic ideas.

On a related note, is there a thread somewhere jsut for posting plot bunnies. Not challenges, jsut things that could be incorporated into fics and such like? Cause I would find something like that brilliant, cause it would get the damn things out my head.

Lately a lot of bunnies have come from fics and watching the early Death Eater scenes in GoF...normally they come from just thinking when I'm sitting about..
