    It wasn't hype. I don't remember the nature of the controversies exactly (upset customers is all I recall) but they were from before Paypal was bought by eBay, or just afterwards.

    I'm not boycotting Paypal, it's just that since then I've never had any reason to use it.

    The controversy with the Something Awful community was a mixup with the Hurricane Katrina donations. Paypal has never been known for good customer service so ill will still lingers.
